New Kitchen

Ok- today Jay installed the faucet. Isn't it pretty? I love it! I am so thankful to have such a talented husband...Thanks babe!

Now...for the backsplash. We have thought of a couple options.
1. Small 4 inch backsplash
2. Run the solid surface up the wall to the cupboards.
3. Do a 5 inch backsplash and raise it just in the areas of the sink and the stove for better protection.

hmmmm...what to do.

Old Kitchen

Just a glance of the OLD kitchen as Jay is tearing is apart! Goodbye old dark brown cabinets and drop down ceiling!

The Kitchen Remodel Continues....

So on Monday, April 12th we finally got our cupboards installed and they are awesome! Now for the countertops! Terry came and templated them today and said he should have them ready to install on Tuesday April 20th! I can't wait! THe debate went on whether to go with lighter or darker countertops but I think the dark won, especially when you put it up to my new black microwave. It will be so nice to have a kitchen back!

One last loook at the OLD bottom cupboards

It's getting late. It is really midnight because tonight we move our clocks forward. Working late. I'm going to bed! Jay stayed up and worked a little longer!
The sheetrock is getting patched. The ceiling is on so it is not so cold downstairs and the furnace isn't running nonstop now. That should really help the bill next month.

The counters won't stay clean for long. I'm sure I'll have sheetrock back on them again!!
My mom asked me, "Didn't anybody tell you not to use white grout?" Mom- this is really just sheetrock dust.

Ok- next came the wiring. We found out that the kitchen, dining room and living room had stuff all on the same circuit. We weren't quite sure if that was safe to install 6 new can lights on that same circuit that the main light in the kitchen was on, so Jay ended up rewiring the whole kitchen, installing new wire for the new two way switch, and moving a light switch and plug because we also decided to knock out the small wall going into the dining area to open it up a little more. The debate was on to knock out the wall between the kitchen and living room but we finally decided not to. That is for many reasons...1. All of our wires run through the ceiling so we would have to make beams to drop all the wires through. 2. Jay had already spent all day rewiring the dang kitchen. 3. We can't run wires underground because we sit on a cement slab. 4. All of our outside walls are insulated with hard foam insulation that would have to be chipped away to moved! 5. Eveybody then can see into my kitchen from the front door. Just forget it! The stove stays where it is at! And the wall stays!

Cupboards are off and more sheetrock removed. I came home from work one day with a distaster all over the countertops and floor. I think I feel like the clean up girl.
